Off-campus Secure SIS Access (PC Instructions)
To access the Student Information System (SIS) securely from an off-campus location:
1. Follow the instructions for downloading and installing Secure Shell Client found in this wiki article.
2. After you have completed installation, click Start, All Programs, SSH Secure Shell, Secure Shell Client (or double-click the SSH Secure Shell Client icon on your desktop if available.)
3. When the program opens, press the Enter key or the spacebar to connect.
4. In the Connect to Remote Host dialog…
5. …enter the host information (nethome.mc.maricopa.edu) (using your actual MCC user name). Click Connect.
6. A message will display asking if you want to save the host key to your computer. Click Yes. (If you click No, you will still be able to login, but the message will appear again the next time you login.)
7. At the prompt, enter your MCC password and click OK.
8. If you want to save the host settings on your machine, in the Add Profile dialog that appears…
9. …type nethome (or any meaningful name) and click Add to Profiles.
10. Note: This dialog disappears automatically if you don’t start typing the profile name quickly. If you missed it, you can add the profile by clicking Profiles, Add Profile…
11. If you added the profile, in the future you will be able to login by clicking on the Profiles button, then selecting homedirs (or whatever name you used). This will save you from having to enter the hostname and your MCC username. (You will still need to enter your password.)
12. Once you have logged into the nethome server, you will be placed at the “bash” prompt.
13. To create a connection to the SIS server, type the command 'telnet dist.maricopa.edu' at the bash prompt. Note: You must use lowercase letters when typing sis. Press Enter.
14. Once the connection is established, you will be at the MC2 prompt.
15. Login using your SIS account as usual. When you are done and want to logout, you will need to logout of both systems. Log out of SIS as usual. Then, once the “foreign host” connection is closed…
16. …logout of the homedirs server by typing logout and pressing Enter at the bash prompt.
17. Close the Secure Shell Client program as you would any windows program.
