How to Obtain Spark

Download the Spark Client for Windows.

Download the Spark Client for Macintosh.

How to Install Spark

Please note that if you are attempting to install this program on an MCC owned computer, you may not have the necessary privileges to install it. If this is the case, please click here to generate a service request email to Technology Support Services for the installation of Jabber.

Installing Spark in Windows

Once you have downloaded Spark, double click on the icon that has been created on your desktop, which is depicted in Figure Inst-1 to begin the installation process.

As the setup process begins, you will see a status box like the one shown in Figure Inst-2. You don't need to do anything here but wait for it to finish.

When the dialog box shown in Figure Inst-3 appears, click on the "Next" button to continue.

Figure Inst-4 is the License Agreement screen. You must read and agree to the terms of the license in order to install and use the software. When you have done so, click on the "I accept the agreement" button and then click "Next" to continue.

The dialog box shown in Figure Inst-5 allows you to select where you would like the program to be installed. We recommend selecting the default - just click on the "Next" button to continue.

The dialog box shown in Figure Inst-6 allows you to determine where Spark will show up under the Windows Start menu. We recommend leaving it at the default and clicking "Next" to continue.

The dialog box shown in Figure Inst-7 allows you to decide if you want a Spark icon on your desktop and/or your "Quick Launch." (Quick Launch is the series of icons immediately to the right of your Start menu button.) Click on the "Next" button to continue.

At this point, the necessary files are copied to the necessary places on your computer to make Spark work. The status window shown in Figure Inst-8 shows the progress of this process.

When the process has completed, you will see a final dialog box like the one shown in Figure Inst-9. Click on the "Finish" button to complete the installation.

Please note that unless you remove the checkmark from the "Run Spark" area, Spark will immediately launch after the installation has completed.


System Requirements Macintosh

Before installing Spark please verify that you are running Mac OS X 10.4 or higher. You will also need to be running the latest version of Java - Java 1.5.* The easiest way to ensure you have all the necessary software is to run the Software Update program located under the Apple Menu.


Installing Spark on a Macintosh

Once you have downloaded Spark for your Mac, you should see an icon like the one shown in Figure MacInst-1. Double click this icon - that will cause another icon to appear (see Figure MacInst-2.) Double click that icon to continue.

Now you should see a window similar to the one depicted in Figure MacInst-3. In order to "install" this on your mac, you need to drag this icon onto your hard drive.

Double click on the Macintosh HD icon (depicted in Figure MacInst-4)

Navigate to the Applications directory. Then, drag the Spark icon (from Figure MacInst-3) into the Applications folder (See Figure MacInst-5 on the right.)


After dragging the icon into your applications folder, you may also drag it onto your dock menu for easy access in the future.

Running Spark in Microsoft Windows

Run Spark by either double clicking the icon (see Figure Win-1) or navigating to the program through the Start Menu (see Figure Win-2.)

You should now see a login screen similar to the one shown in Figure Win-3 on the left.

  • Type your MCC username in the Username box
  • Type your MCC password in the Password box
  • Type mc.maricopa.edu in the Server box


Note: It is optional to select Save Password and/or Auto Login. If your machine is used by many different users, it would be a good idea not to select these options.

Click on the login button.


Running Spark on a Macintosh

If you have a Spark icon on your dock menu, click it to launch Spark (See Figure Mac-1 above.)

If Spark is not on your Dock menu, you will have to double click on your Macintosh HD icon (Figure Mac-2)

This will open a window like the one depicted in Figure Mac-3. Click on your Applications folder and scroll down until you find Spark. Double click on it to run the program.

You should now see a login screen similar to the one shown in Figure Mac-4 on the left.

  • Type your MCC username in the Username box
  • Type your MCC password in the Password box
  • Type mc.maricopa.edu in the Server box
