Wireless Redirect
From TSSwiki
If you have tried to log into MCC's Wireless network and are being directed to this page, chances are that our automated intrusion detection system has flagged your computer as a threat. You will not be able to access the wireless network until this threat has been addressed. This is most likely due to spyware, viruses, trojans, or peer to peer file sharing programs on your computer.
- If you are a faculty or staff member, please contact Technology Support Services to report the problem so we can initiate corrective action.
- If you are a student you may contact us, and we will do what we can to help. However, due to licensing restrictions, we cannot provide students with copies of Symantec Antivirus.
Please note that once your computer has been flagged, it will be blocked from internet access for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes, the system will automatically un-block your computer. However, if the computer exhibits the same behavior, it will be flagged as a threat again. This will repeat until whatever is causing the suspicious activity has been fixed.
Here are some things you can do to avoid having your computer flagged as a threat:
- Remove peer to peer sharing programs such as Limewire, Kazaa, and many others.
- If you are running Microsoft Windows XP (Service Pack 2), make sure that your Windows Firewall is turned on.
- If you are using an older version of Microsoft Windows, either upgrade the OS or purchase a firewall software.
- For school owned computers, please contact us so that we can get your computer upgraded.
- Make sure that all of your Windows Updates are current
- If you don't already have one, install an Antivirus program and make sure it is up to date.
- We can provide Symantec Antivirus to faculty and staff. Contact us for details.
